Check and fix for PC users
Q1: I want to capture game play from an Xbox 360. How can I do this with my Core2Duo PC?
A: Your gaming device has a composite audio-video output (s-video/RCA) that connects to your TV monitor. You’ll need a video capturing device (PCI or USB) to connect the audio-video output to your PC. The driver and software needed for video capture usually comes with the capturing device. Your PC is good enough to capture DVD quality video provided you have at least 1 GB RAM. If your video output is RCA (yellow) then there’s an RCA to s-video adapter available cheap. Some cards bundle the adapter free.
Q2: No sound on DVD? When I try to play a DVD on my laptop, there appears to be sound and picture, but you can’t hear anything though the volume is on. I tried installing codecs and ac3filter. Nothing worked. How can I fix this?
A: The system mixer might be on mute. Click the speaker icon in the system tray and see if there’s a red marking indicating mute.
Q3: Why don’t my speakers work? I lost the copy of where to plug the speakers....where do I plug it? In the pink, green or blue socket?
A: Green is for speaker out. Blue is for line in. Red/pink is for MIC in.
Q4: I can’t get system restore to work. It shows a blank page every time. I want to restore the system to an earlier date but page comes up blank. How can I fix this?
A: You cannot run system restore if your system (PC) is infected with a virus. You need to run a bootable antivirus on CD like the Avira system restore to clean the virus first. You might also want to try AVG Internet Security 9.0 to scan and remove the virus first then proceed with the system restore. If system restore pushes through, you will need to reinstall the antivirus once more.
Q5: What can you advise to avoid overheating my laptop? I have bought a laptop 5 months back and it does not heat up quickly though I use it for 12-15 hours. But a few days back I formatted my laptop & made dual OS and after that I feel my laptop getting heated up quickly. IS THEIR ANY RELATION BETWEEN PUTTING DUAL OS & LAPTOP GETTING OVERHEATED. Which parts of the laptop makes the computer heated up quickly?
A: Use a cooling pad for prolonged usage will prevent overheating. Avoid putting the machine over pillows or linen. Use it on short periods only when placed on your lap. Clean the holes and vents regularly (once a month) preferably with compressed air blowing through the air ducts. Single or dual boot system does not matter on overheating issues. The hottest area is where you will find the processor and the video card. The HDD also heats up but not as fast as the processor.
Warning: Answers, advises and recommendations may not apply to all. Take caution. When in doubt seek other opinions. (For problems/questions and comments Email: anicetosimoy@yahoo.com)
