School on-air produces 135 graduates in Bukidnon

SOME 135  farmers who were  officially enrolled in the School-on-the- Air Program ( SOA)  has finally graduated on February 5, 2010 at the Kaamulan Folk Arts Theatre Malaybalay Bukidnon.
  The SOA was aired over DXDB Radyo Bandilyo every  MWF, 5:00-5:30 in the morning and anchored by Provincial Information Officer Ma. Lilith M. Turan.

        The three-month season long program discussed topics on the Code of Good Agricultural Practices ( GAP) in corn, high value commercial crops, rice and organic farming.

  The topics introduced to the SOA students tackles food security and safety in connection with production as well as preparation of corn, rice, vegetables and other crops as a food commodity in various markets.
  Thus, through initiatives like this we will be able to compete with other agricultural nations and may export our agricultural products to other countries as well.

  The Code of Good Agricultural Practices is a set of consolidated safety and quality standards for the production, harvesting and on-farm postharvest handling, and storage of agricultural products that aims to provide safe and high quality agricultural products

        This School -on-the- Air program helped farmers gain more knowledge and techniques as to topics discussed and because of this added knowledge they in turn will become effective tillers of land and growers of varied crops as they will be able to apply Good Agricultural Practices  standards on their own farm.
        The farmer-graduates are very thankful to the Department of Agriculture for giving them opportunities such as this.
  In her valedictory address,  Ms. Emmielyn M. Navares  who came from Cabanglasan expressed her gratitude for giving them opportunities to improve themselves as farmers but also has made them a learned individual.
  Also in the top 10 are Helen Ilongo, Robertson Praca, Gretty Langue, Analyn Arnado,  Nerisa  Campol, Analuz Talha, Pacita Memeje, Eufimia Espital and Gina  Amas.
  On the other hand, Regional Technical Director for Admin  Lester A. Jaducana expressed her delight for the farmer’s participation.

  She has revealed that DA-RFU 10 provides the top 10 with an all expense experiential learning tour within the provinces of Region 10. This will enhance the knowledge of the farmers in the field of agriculture .
  Guests of the SOA-GAP  graduation are Engr. Alson G. Quimba Provincial Agricultural Officer of Bukidnon; Ms. Esteleta Madjos- Acting Assistant Provincial Agriculturist;  Mr. Oscar Belderol Prov. Human Resource Management Officer of Bukidnon, Ms. Lilith Turan- SOA Farmcaster and DA-RFU- 10 officers and staff.

Participants for this SOA-GAP came from municipalities of San Fernando, Sumilao, Lantapan, Impasug-ong,  Cabanglasan and the cities of Valencia  and Malaybalay all in the Province of Bukidnon. A report from Suzy May A. Roa
