The changing appearance of Filipino-Americans

THE first batch of Filipinos to touch down the soil of America was in the 1930s or shortly before the beginning of World War II. They were hired by American capitalists to work in sugar plantations in Hawaii. Hawaii was not a part of USA that time. There were many workers from Japan, China, Korea and other countries.
The workers, being mostly bachelors, were attractive to the local ladies of the island. In a short while, intermarriages followed thus new structures and colors came from what used to be brown Filipinos.
As the years went on, more and more job opportunities were opened in the USA thus more Filipinos came and many of them lost their identity as Filipinos.
Slowly, Filipinos were transformed in appearance. Many are sporting white complexion already until they drift too far in the culture and civilization of the Americans. Those married to other nationalities have also produced different appearances of children thus we have half Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Africans and even Europeans.
Our brown complexion disappeared entirely and in its place surfaced the lighter or white color derived from Europeans and the mainland USA. We now see Filipinos with long noses and blue eyes while the speak the language of the white people.
After more than 50 years, more than a million Filipinos were scattered in California and other states. They mix with new breeds and off away they disappear in our society.
Filipinos have the dream of educating their children which pave the way to even new breeds of people with Filipinos as its origin. We now have the professionals like engineers, lawyers, teachers, etc. The Filipino farmers were getting thinner and even have disappeared from the field and in their place are new Filipino professionals.
Today, we have so many professionals in our midst and are making good in their respective profession. They look every inch Americans and very few would ever trace their roots.
